The Ibanez 2017 RGDIX6PB Iron Label Electric Guitar in Surreal Black Burst is part of the highly regarded RGD series. However, it boasts some unique appointments and a build unlike its close relatives. There are still some instantly recognisable RG series features on hand, including deep double cutaways for superior upper neck access, and bevelled edges to create a comfortable playing position for the picking hand. These are now accompanied by a longer 26.5-inch scale length along the neck to optimise sustain - great for soaring leads and thunderous rhythm chops. To top it all off, a dazzling Surreal Black Burst finish gives this beauty a striking aesthetic that commands attention.

          Exotic tonewood partnership

As mentioned, the RGDIX6PB has a Poplar Burl top, which offers a comfortable, lightweight feel as well as having a striking pattern. This exotic wood top sits just above the natural, layered ash/mahogany body, giving the RGDIX6PB an alluring, boutique feel. The tonewood partnership produces a full-bodied sonic output that marries a fantastic midrange with enduring sustain and a warm, soft low-end beautifully.

          Nitro Wizard neck profile

A special feature of the RGDIX6PB Iron Label guitar is its extra-long scale neck measuring in at 26.5 inches, which as noted above improves sustain by allowing the strings a greater distance to resonate more freely. The neck is constructed out of a maple/bubinga partnership, and shaped to the ultra-slim Nitro Wizard profile. RGD series guitars allow you to experiment with a wide range of different tunings, and offer an incredibly thick tone when using drop tunings, perfect for slab-like rock riffs and lightning-fast metal licks.

Married to the neck is a bound ebony fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets that are free of adornments for an elegant yet understated finish. The deep double cutaway horns in the body create an easy reach to the upper frets, giving your fingers complete freedom of movement across the two-octave range.

          DiMarzio Fusion Edge pickups

To translate the unique tonewood composition of the body, the RGDIX6PB electric guitar is equipped with DiMarzio Fusion Edge humbucking pickups, which came from a close collaboration with Ibanez. From chunky palm-muted riffs to elaborate arpeggios, deft legato and soaring leads, the Fusion Edge pickups deliver a confident sonic blast to faithfully represent your playing style.

          Hardware and finish

The RGDIX6PB is fitted with a Gibraltar Standard II bridge, which creates a seamless connection between the strings and body to optimise intonation and sustain. You can rest assured that once in position, you can hammer the strings as hard as you wish and your tone will remain preserved with precision. The headstock is equipped with Gotoh MG-T locking tuners, upholding tuning integrity for each string. Black hardware offers a contrast against the light maple neck and sub-layer of the body, combined with the Surreal Black Burst finish.

The Ibanez 2017 RGDIX6PB Iron Label Electric Guitar in Surreal Black Burst is perfect for those who play downtuned rock/metal/jazz styles and want a truly flexible tonal palette to paint with. The extended length of the neck ensures that notes ring out for days, giving the breadth of tones created by the ash/mahogany partnership the chance to sing loud and clear.
