For many musicians, when you think of a square-shoulder dreadnought, many think of the Gibson Songwriter Studio. This model was first brought about in 2003 and Gibson are now introducing an updated version for 2017. Keeping that original dreadnought shape and using modern, sophisticated technology, this Songwriter Studio acoustic stands out from the other dreadnoughts.

DREADNOUGHT BODY

The Gibson 2017 Songwriter Studio keeps its recognisable dreadnought body and square-shoulder shape, improving both comfort and sound output simultaneously. The body top is constructed from Sitka spruce and accompanied by rosewood in the back and sides. The wood combination contributes to the overall voice of the guitar, providing a vast tonal range (as well as looking great).

The AA grade Sitka spruce top has a smooth, Hi Gloss Antique Natural finish to withstand the test of time. The body top is radiused with scalloped bracing for added stability, plus this boosts the guitar's ability to resonate freely.

NECK

A mahogany neck is firmly fitted to the body of the Songwriter Studio model via a compound dovetail joint using the traditional hot hide glue. The neck is given a round profile for an ultimately comfortable playing feel in your hand. Topping the neck is a slick rosewood fingerboard which has a softened edge that is designed to feel more comfortable in the curve of your hand. The fingerboard features 20 frets, adorned with the illustrious Gibson mother-of-pearl paralellogram inlays to guide you.

Gibson employ outstanding German-engineered Plek technology in the construction of the neck, and finish the build by hand for the best possible playing surface. Furthermore, Gibson's luthiers hand rub the fingerboard with finishing oil which strengthens the neck, ensuring it lasts longer and brings out the best natural features of the tonewoods.

LR BAGGS VTC PICKUP

The VTC pickup system used in the Songwriter Studio guitar is an advanced undersaddle pickup which imitates the actual movement of the soundboard while you play. Unlike other undersaddle pickups, the LR Baggs VTC features a tiny, flexible film sensor which listens directly to the soundboard, consequently providing a truly dynamic range of tones. The pickup has a small, basic construction but is unmatched in the modern world of undersaddle pickups thanks to its outstanding ability to accurately reproduce a fantastic acoustic voice.

HARDWARE AND FINISH

The lower bout of the body is fitted with a rosewood, custom line bridge accompanied with a Tusq nut and saddle. Like the fingerboard, the bridge is also treated to the hand-rubbed finishing oil for a longer life.

The headstock is not just fitted with meticulously accurate gold Grover Rotomatic tuners, but also features a custom rosewood headstock veneer with an inlaid mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown for an artistic finish.

The stunning Antique Natural body top is complemented by a tortoise pickguard and also a soundhole rosette. To enable you to protect your new pride and joy for many years to come, Gibson supply a black hardshell branded case and a Gibson Acoustic Owner's Manual.
