As you may have gathered by the name, the design of the Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom takes us back to the early'70s, but it,s what was happening before that time that is interesting.

Fender had previously been pigeon-holed as a single-coil pickup company, while Gibson held the humbucker audience. This lead to Fender players in the late'60s and very early'70s hot-rodding their, originally single-coil, instruments with a humbucker in the neck. This model is the recreation of Fender,s answer to the need of a Tele with an SH pickup configuration.

          Classic Build

Fans of the Tele were after a hot-rodded version of the model they already knew and loved, so the classic body shape, carved from alder, stayed the same, giving a familiar form for the innovative additions to reside in. The body of the Fender Classic Series 72 Telecaster Custom has been coated with a sleek Black polyester finish that gives it a distinguished feel alongside the contrasting fingerboard colour.

          '70s Neck, Bridge, and Tuners

Another reliable classic of the era, which is still seen in today,s instruments, is the maple neck, shaped to comfortable and highly playable C Shape profile, and finished in a smooth gloss urethane finish. This is kept in place by an ""F""stamped, three-bolt neck plate with Micro-Tilt and it also sports a bullet truss rod nut.

Standing out from the black of the body finish is a maple fingerboard, which gives you 21 vintage-style frets to navigate, with black dot position inlays marking your path.

Authentically'70s, the Fender Classic Series 72 Telecaster Custom,s neck is set between a 3-saddle American Vintage strings-through-body Tele bridge with chrome barrel saddles and a headstock that is outfitted with a set of sealed tuners stamped with the stylized capital ""F""from the classic Fender script logo.

          SH Configuration

As mentioned earlier, the Fender Classic Series 72 Telecaster Custom is set up with a SH configuration. The pickups that make up the configuration are a Standard single-coil Tele pickup in the bridge position and a Wide Range humbucker in the neck.

Evoking the original model,s design, this dual gives you the classic Tele tone from the single coil, while switching to the humbucker offers a fatter sound with surprising clarity. Switch the pickup selector to the middle position and you,ll a luxurious, warm tone with a bit of bite.

Each of the pickups can also be governed with finite control, as each has independent volume and tone controls. These come in the form of black, skirted amp knobs.
